Since its founding in 2007 I have served as a research scientist at the Johns Hopkins University Human Language Technology Center of Excellence.  I am also Member of the Principal Professional Staff at the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory. My doctoral dissertation investigated subword representations of text for language-independent approaches to cross-lingual information retrieval.  More recently I have been working in information extraction and machine translation.  For over 25 years I have taught in the Whiting School of Engineering’s part-time masters program in computer science.
