Johns Hopkins University is seeking an established, highly respected technologist and research manager to serve as Director of the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence (HLTCOE). Reporting to the University’s Provost, the Director will be charged with strengthening the Center’s relationship with its sponsors and ensuring that the Center recruits and attracts top talent. The Director will work with HLTCOE researchers to extend its record of significant technical accomplishment and work collaboratively with the Center’s research staff and partners to define the Center’s research agenda and strategic directions.
The Johns Hopkins University HLTCOE is a world-class research center established in 2007, addressing a unique set of exciting challenge problems in collaboration with our sponsors. Our research scientists develop advanced algorithms for analyzing speech, text, and document image data in multiple languages, extracting useful information from massive amounts of text and speech over a wide range of languages and genres, striving to advance the state-of-the-art in HLT in speech and text. Current problems focus on improvements in speech to text, automatic speaker and language identification, machine translation, information retrieval, entity extraction and related topics.
HLTCOE researchers interact extensively with the faculty and students of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Language and Speech Processing (CLSP), located close by on the University’s Homewood Campus and with HLT research peers world-wide.
